Protection and Conservation

The Association of Speleological Explorers of Resita (ASE) have taken several measures for the implementation of the different objectives from the management plan for Comarnic Cave: metal gates were put in place at the accessible entrance points, monitoring systems were placed to measure and register environmental conditions and tourist impact, sight-seeing tours were limited to visits led only by trained guides, volunteers or expert scientists, and more. Applying the management plan will improve the conditions of Comarnic Cave's natural habitat and various species, being a positive example of conservation and administration of protected karst areas.

The main goal for the Management Plan for Comarnic Cave is to maintain the natural unaltered state of the cave well into the future, for the benefit of the public and of the speogenetic and biologic resources.

The management objectives are:

- To reduce human impact to maintain the current or original natural resources.
- To rehabilitate subterranean space for returning conditions to their original state.
- To generate the infrastructure necessary for modern eco-tourism, to minimize impact on the environment.
- The multidisciplinary study of the cave and surrounding areas to better understand the complex needs of conservation of the area.
- To diversify the educational programs offered at Comarnic Cave to attract cave visitors to a new activity, a unique environment and a new world that lies underground.
- To increase the efficiency of the management team for the better administration of Comarnic Cave.
- To prevent negative human influences/impacts on the natural state of Comarnic Cave.
- To monitor and document the results of the management plan activities and carry out the objectives of the management plan.
